Individual therapy,
also called psychotherapy or talk therapy, is a one-on-one therapeutic relationship between you and a clinician. It's a space that belongs entirely to you to process what's weighing on you, to understand yourself more clearly, and to build the tools you need to move through life with more ease, clarity, and confidence.
At The Gold Mind, we use evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches tailored to your unique history and goals. That might include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, or an integrative combination of modalities, depending on what you're working through and what feels right for you.

Change, even good change, can be hard. A new city, a career shift, a breakup, a loss, a milestone birthday, becoming a parent, leaving a relationship: life transitions can surface everything we thought we had handled. Individual therapy in New York gives you a consistent, grounded space to process change at whatever pace you need, so you can move through it with intention and get out of survival mode.
New York City is built for ambition. It's also built for burnout. If you've hit a wall, if getting through the day feels dreadful, if the things you used to love feel empty, if your body is telling you it's done before your mind is willing to admit it, therapy can help you figure out what's actually happening and how to rebuild from there. We work with high-achieving individuals who are struggling to reconcile their external success with the way they actually feel inside.
Trauma doesn't always look the way we expect it to. It can show up as a sense that you're never quite safe, difficulty trusting others, emotional numbness, or sudden intrusive memories. Our trauma therapists are trained in somatic and body-based approaches as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) — one of the most well-researched trauma therapies available. We also offer EMDR Intensives for clients seeking a more accelerated path to healing. Trauma work is careful, sensitive work, and you won't be pushed faster than you're ready to go.
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek out a therapist in New York City and one of the most treatable. Whether you're dealing with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, or the low-grade dread that just never seems to lift, individual therapy can help you understand what's driving it and give you tools for lasting relief. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches to help you rewire the thought patterns and nervous system responses keeping you stuck.

Individual therapy sessions at The Gold Mind are 45 minutes, held on a consistent weekly basis. We've found that regularity is one of the most important factors in meaningful progress. Therapy works best when it's not just a crisis intervention but a steady, committed practice.
You'll be matched with a therapist who has specific expertise in what you're navigating. Our practice is intentionally small, which means you'll never be passed off to whoever is available. Your therapist will know your story, your history, and your goals and will be fully invested in your progress.
We are a private pay practice. Our billing team manages out-of-network insurance submissions on your behalf, making the financial side of care as simple and transparent as possible.
The Gold Mind was founded with a clear vision: to offer the kind of mental health care that the system usually fails to provide. Care that is personalized, evidence-based, high-quality, and genuinely supportive.
We're not a high-volume clinic. We don't rush through intakes or rotate clients between providers. We work with the people we work with, deeply and we take that responsibility seriously.
If you're looking for a psychotherapist in NYC who will actually take the time to understand you, this is where you'll find that.
If you're wondering whether therapy could help, that's usually a sign it might be worth exploring. You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from individual therapy. Many of our clients come to us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like they're not quite living the life they want. Not because everything is falling apart, but because something important is missing. A free 15-minute consultation is a low-stakes way to find out if we're a good fit. Fill out our contact form and we will follow up with you as soon as possible.
These terms can overlap, which creates understandable confusion. A psychotherapist (usually shortened to therapist) is a clinician trained in talk-based therapies. A psychologist typically holds a doctoral degree and may also provide psychological testing. A psychiatrist is a doctor who can prescribe medication, offer testing, and talk therapy. At The Gold Mind, our clinicians are psychotherapists with advanced training in evidence-based modalities. They do not prescribe medication, but can coordinate with prescribers when needed.
Private pay therapy in New York City typically ranges from $150 to $350 per session. At The Gold Mind, we offer upfront, transparent pricing and our billing team handles out-of-network insurance submissions on your behalf, which can substantially reduce your out-of-pocket cost. We'll walk you through the financial details during your consultation. The cost of the session will depend on who you’re working with but our range is 75-250 per session.
That depends entirely on what you're working through and what you want to achieve. Some clients reach their goals in a focused 12–16 week engagement. Others choose to continue longer-term because they find value in the ongoing support and self-exploration. We don't keep clients in therapy longer than is useful and we'll regularly check in with you on your progress and goals.
Yes. We offer EMDR for trauma processing as part of individual therapy, and we also offer EMDR Intensives for clients who want a more concentrated approach to healing. Learn more about our Intensives here: thegoldmindnyc.com/intensives
